Belmont Yoga Basics classes are designed to develop flexibility, stength, balance, mental focus, and inner calm.  They are based on the Iyengar yoga tradition which emphasizes precise alignment, careful sequencing, and attention to breath.  Postures are practiced slowly, and their difficulty is adjusted to individual students’ capabilities through the use of variations and props. 

 

Credentials

Susan Harris, RYT-500, has studied Iyengar yoga since 1992 and has been teaching since 2010.   In 2010, she completed a two-year teaching apprenticeship with Joseph Satlak in Belmont, MA.  In 2013, she completed a 500-hr teacher training program with The Lotus Pond of Tampa, FL, studing primarily with Karin Stephan in Cambridge, MA.  She continues to study with Joseph, Karin, and other experienced Iyengar teachers.  Susan also holds graduate degrees in nutrition (M.S.) and epidemiology (D.Sc.), and is a research scientist and Associate Professor of Nutrition at Tufts University.
