Kym Detwiler
We offer healthy lifestyle support with yoga, yoga therapy, massage and Ayurveda wellness.
Kym has been a student of yoga for over eighteen years and has been teaching yoga for over sixteen years. The fitness industry led Kym to her yoga mat. With over nineteen years of fitness experience, she has worked in corporate, residential and traditional gym settings. Guiding individuals of various ages ranging from kids to seniors with: yoga, personal training, semi-private and group fitness classes.
The experience of working with many age groups and fitness levels has led her to become more in-tune with her yoga participants. Participants are encouraged to honor their bodies during their own practice. Options for variety in poses are offered, allowing the poses to work for each individual. She has learned that the fast paced fitness mentality of, “more and harder is better” is not always beneficial for the body. Moderation, breathing, listening to the body, meditation and ‘just being’ are so much more beneficial.
In 2010 Kym had the opportunity to study yoga in Rishikesh, India. This was a life changing experience and a catalyst for taking her practice to the next level. This experience led her to delve deeper into the science and metaphysics of yoga.
Sound healing is a big part of Kym’s practice. As the yogi’s discovered hundreds of years ago, sound has an effect on the body and can help to create balance and harmony. Incorporating crystal bowls and mantra can have positive affects on the body.
With over 1,000 hours of yoga training: Yogafit 200 & 500-hour RYS teacher training, The Soul of Yoga-Sundara College: Advanced Yoga Teacher Training 300-hour RYS and Yoga of The Heart-Yoga for Cardiac and Cancer Rehabilitation. She has also been a part of several yoga teacher training schools as an instructor and has introduced yoga to a several U.S. Navy vessels.
She studied to become an Ayurveda Wellness Counselor, and in the future will be studying to become an Ayurveda Practitioner. Ayurveda and Yoga are sister sciences, they work together and help bring more balance and harmony to the body, mind, and spirit. In India, there is a long-standing tradition of practicing both Yoga and Ayurveda together, for maximum enhanced and positive results.
As a yoga therapist, Kym's teacing and yoga style are focused on helping people move into poses with much more awareness and honoring where they are in the moment. With a deeper awareness and connection to the mind, body and spirit we can find more balance and harmony with each practice and in each moment.
