Though I only recently earned my Yoga Teacher's Certificate from the Pranakriya School of Yoga and the Healing Arts, I have practiced yoga on and off for the beter part of 40 years. I am taking a training in guiding Yoga Nidra sessions from Kamini Desai, and I intend to continue on for more training in Yoga as Therapy. I am currently drawn to Iyengar, as I believe alignment is key in healing, to Kundalini yoga for the clarity and peace that it fosters, and to the approach that each individual has specific needs which must be addressed in unique ways for healing and health to follow yoga practice. I am also drawn to "Laughter Yoga", for it seems a joyous practice, though not an asana based practice. Since yoga covers a wide range of ways to practice, I believe laugher is as good as any practice rooted inn asana work, and it certainly includes LOTS of pranayama! One thing at a time, though. This winter it's Yoga Nidra for me.
My first real gig as a yoga instructor was teaching in a senior center, to a large nmber of people. This has been instructive to me. My teaching practice is better for the experience, and I continue to offer yoga at this center. I am growing my offerings to others, and will be introducing private and semi-private yoga class opportunities increasingly as time goes by. Other offerings will include incorporation of the art of watercolors as a meditative practice, and Equestrian Yoga in the near future.
I have earned a 200 hour certificate from the Pranakriya School of Yoga and the Healing Arts. I am a watercolorist, a fiber artist, and a sculptor becoming increasingly skilled in incorporatng use of metals, fibers, and found objects into my work. My educational background includes a Bachelors of Scientce in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University, and, later, an Associates of Arts and Sciences in Architecture. I edit a monthly newsletter for a local arts organization, and I teach some fiber arts classes at my local community college. All this brings a wide background to my teaching practice, and informs my approach to teaching, and to life.
