Mark Whitwell - Author, Yoga Teacher and Trainer

Description

Mark has enjoyed a life-long relationship with T. Krishnamacharya, “the teacher of our teachers”—Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, Srivatam Ramaswami, and T.K.V. Desikachar. Mark was the editor and contributor to Desikachar’s book The Heart of Yoga. Since 1978 Mark has traveled throughout Europe and America teaching the timeless principles and techniques of his teachers with compassion and clarity. Having studied with many known and unknown yoga masters, Mark is most interested in revealing actual yoga and how each person effectively practices, to express the sincere intention of yoga: to truly breathe, help and serve.

“As a young man I traveled constantly between Ganeshpuri and my yoga teachers in Madras. Even then I intuited the relevance, indeed the necessity of a real yoga practice as the means of dealing with the huge forces of life within us. I have learned to pass on this energy and teach a person to manage it beautifully. By teaching thousands of people over the years it has become possible to fit them into their appropriate yoga like a glove. It is nothing more or less than a person waking up to his or her own power as Life and realizing we are perfectly supported by Life, the one condition of all life that here I choose to call Mother, my first guru.”

Mark’s most recent book is Yoga of Heart, published by Lantern Books. He teaches globally. Mark established the Heart of Yoga Association in 1998 as a Non-profit to provide yoga education worldwide.
