Susan Alexander Yoga

Description

Susan Alexander Yoga 500hr RYT

Susan has been a dedicated yoga and mindfulness teacher for the last 14 years and a practitioner for over 30. Her yoga practice began in the early 80’s as a means to alleviate discomfort from her professional sports and dance life-style, most notably as a 4- year member of Canada’s National rowing team. Her strength as a teacher derives from a commitment to daily practice focusing on building compassion and kind awareness in the body, mind, and spirit and applying yoga as therapy for all conditions Her interest is in the exploration of how the body and mind reflect and affect each other.

In Susan’s class one will experience a blend of mindful movements linking breath, body, and mind, developing strength, flexibility, balance and an awareness to each moment. Beyond the physical exercise the practice is a process of anchoring the mind in the body; and with the breath, allowing a pause to turn off the automatic pilot of the mind.  It is through this practice that one creates a connection to ease in stillness, opening the heart to deeper intentions and core values. The experience is to create an environment where students can meet each moment with kindness and a sense of holding what arises in the mind or body with integrity, respect and gratitude. Expect to feel invigorated, relaxed, aligned and restored.

Susan has had the good fortune to learn from many varied and wonderful teachers both in North America and Europe. Her training has been steeped in both the roots of the Yoga Tradition as well as Buddhism (Theraveda). Additionally her teaching is strongly influenced by her current graduate studies in Integral Counseling Psychology and Somatic Psychology. Susan feels blessed and inspired by her many students which run the gamut of yoga and mindfulness classes at schools, colleges, and corporations where she teaches seniors, teens and adults of all ages and abilities. Susan also maintains a thriving private practice of yoga therapy, yoga massage and personalized yoga classes. Through the years Susan has had extensive experience with resolving and supporting individuals who are facing life challenges and changes, such as cancer, PTSD, anxiety, grief, pain, arthritis and attention difficulties.
